McCoy is used to winning in Denver, and Telesco, for all but a lost 2011 season, was there for plenty of winning in Indianapolis. With Rivers, one of the league's fieriest competitions, it hasn't been long since San Diego was both a division powerhouse and Super Bowl threat.

With McCoy and Telesco each just 40, their combined more youthful energy is a welcome change from the old-hat ways of Turner and former G.M. A.J. Smith.

The Chargers were selective in the process, but so was McCoy. Their mutual waiting game puts both the team and its new coach in a good position to quickly win a lot of games together.
